TAMBUNAN - A hilly and tranquil place with beautiful rice fields and surrounded by lush forest

Tambunan is like a pretty but introvert girl who is shy away from strangers. Only when you are care to know her better, you will uncover her hidden gems and fall in love with her. Tambunan is so quiet that it gets the least attention from tourist. But, to find a beautiful girl in Sabah, Tambunan is the answer (kidding :D). Tambunan is about 80 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu city.
There are many remarkable places to visit and things to do in Tambunan. Check it out !

Mahua Waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls in Sabah, located in Tambunan about 12 kilometres away from town. Nestled with a substation of Crocker Range Park, the waterfall is located off the old route to Ranau on a paved road to its entrance at Mahua Substation. From here, a half-kilometre jungle trail lined with boardwalks leads to a majestic 17-meter high waterfall, which cascades down a stunning rim-like cavity.

A small ticket fee - RM3- grants visitors access to the park for the whole day - camping is permitted while jungle lodge (Mahua Rainforest Paradise) next door provides budget room and dormitory accommodation with seminar hall and restaurant on stanby.

Kipandi Butterfly Park is the best place to see those beautiiful insects in different colors and it is fairly accessible. Just take the road from Penampang to Tambunan. After an hour of driving, you will pass by a road with 120 degree turn going uphill. Please be careful because it is a black-zone for car accident.

The ticket fee for Malaysian adult is RM10, foreigner tourist is RM20. While children will get half price.

Spread across a total area of 1399 sq. kilometres, the Crocker Range National Park is considered the largest national park in Sabah. The National Park was recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere in 2014 which made it the second Malaysian site after the Chini Lake in Pahang.

Among the attractions to be found in the Crocker Range Park are the Rafflesia sites, trekking courses, birding activity and camping ground.

Sinurambi is a Dusun language which refers to little huts normally seen in paddy fields. Sinurambi is the name given to an iconic viewing tower overlooking Tambunan valley. It's about 3-storey high made of metal structure and inspired shape from traditional Dusun back carrier called 'wakid'. Sinurambi offers 3-level viewing platforms with different capacity.

Do you believe me if I say, Lahad Datu and Tawau will be the next big thing in Sabah ? Because, Indonesia is moving it's capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, Borneo.  As you know, Tawau is the third-largest town in Sabah. It is located on the South East Coast of the state in the administrative centre of Tawau Division which bordered by the Sulu Sea to the east, the Celebes Sea to the south at Cowie Bay and shares a border with North Kalimantan.
Do you know that Tawau has a lot of best things to offer ? Let's explore Tawau, Sabah.

If you love nature and untouched jungle, Maliau Basin is a place for you. To enter Maliau Basin, you need to apply for permission prior 6-12 months before your trip. Pay for longer trips, so you can visit 7 tiers of Maliau falls and other Waterfalls.

Less than 10,000 human population ever entered this conservative area (a size of almost whole Singapore country). Be one of the lucky person !

The Sipadan Island is a famous dive spot in Sabah. It is formed by a deep-sea island. The under-water part of the island is shaped like a chimney reaching the sky from the seabed. There are over 3,000 varieties of fishes, and hundreds of types of corals in this area. It is also noted for number of green turtles and hawksbill turtles living here. Divers should not miss the sea caves here fillied with colorful coral and special fishes. In the turtle caves in the northern Sipadan island, you can find a stock of silver hypostomus punctatus, the soldier fish and the flowfish.

A little jewel of Borneo. School of fishes and amazing rainforest on the island.

Trace the delicious history of cocoa with a ticket to the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum in Tawau. Begins your tour by watching a 15 minutes' video to introduce the cocoa development of Tawau. Discover how cocoa beans have been cultivated and enjoyed for centuries. Learn th steps of transforming raw cocoa bean into cocoa mass, cocoa butter and cocoa powder. Sample in-house cocoa refreshments such as cocoa marble ball, cocoa popcorn, cocoa batang buruk, pure handmade chocolate and signature cocoa drink. If you are looking for some local products, the 'Hoko' product is ideal for your shopping alternatives.

This is one of the two parks that you can find in this part of Sabah located approximately  24 KM from the town. The Tawau Hills National Park is perfect for nature lovers who want to learn more about the rainforest's flora and fauna, as well as witnessing the world's talent tropical trees. There are  lots of popular hill if you are a fan of trekking, then you can cool down at the waterfalls nearby. You will be able to find chalets, camping sites and places to do picnics at Tawau Hills National Park while you do some bird watching.

The Danum Valley conservation area has always been an interest for scientists doing research on the ecology system of tropical rainforest. It support close to 300 species of birds (most of which are endemic to Borneo) and more than 100 species of mammals. While the African safari has its Big Five, Danum Valley is famous for sightings of extremely rare creatures such as Sumatran rhinos, clouded leopards, pygmy elephants, gibbons and if you are really lucky, the sun bear. While you're here, do not miss out on the night drive as it gives you a completely different feel of the rainforest after dark. Tenom is situated approximately 145 kilometres away from Kota Kinabalu city and unofficially the capital and hometown of Murut etnic. Whether you're visiting Tenom for a few days or are a localite, Tenom is sure to have something new for you. This article will give you an idea about the popular attractions in Tenom for families, friends or romantic couples.
Actually, this was not my first time in Tenom but, I visited these places listed here for the first time such as Yitt Foh Coffee, Fatt Choi Coffee, Marais Centre Village, Pamelo's farm and so on.

My thought about Tenom ? I love it. The Tenom town is located just at the foot of Crocker Range. The town itself, though small, it's peace and quiet. Pictures below speaks thousand words.
And yes, Tenom is also famous for it's coffee (Kopi Tenom). The coffee industry is the second largest contributor to the economy of Tenom after the rubber industry.  Visitors may use the Sabah State Railway train to travel to Tenom from Kota Kinabalu or by bus. For bus there are two routes which is by Kimanis road and the other one is by Penampang-Tambunan road. Kimanis road take lesser time to reach, but the downside of this route is very steep, up to 20 degree and vehicle with low power may have very hard time to travelling this route. Another route is through Penampang-Tambunan. This route takes longer time to reach and it's very winding, however, the road is not steep and long the way, there are many tourist attractions and one of them being the Rafflesia Research Centre and yes, you will be able to see this plant - the largest flower in the world here in Sabah but, the flower only bloom on certain time.
My highlighted trip is for sure Marais Village ! Marais Village is the perfect spot for you to take stunning photos to make everyone back home jelous of the amazing trip you are having. But Marais in Tenom is also a chance to experience the fascinating rice farming culture. And guys, once you've wandered and snapped some amazing photos, take a little time to put your camera away and look closely at what is going on around you. Listen to the sounds and smell the earth.  Watch the men and women working the fields, planting and harvesting the rice, and think about what backbreaking work they undertake every single day.

Okay, cukup sedikit penerangan tentang penginapan.

Untuk proses pendaftaran di Kinabalu Park, bagi yang melalui agent proses pendaftaran sudah dimudahkan/diurus bergantung kepada apa yang sudah dipersetujui antara kedua pihak, tetapi bagi yang bukan melaui agent, pastikan slot pendakian sah terlebih dahulu sama ada melalui online, walk in atau telefon dan telah membuat pembayaran penuh sebelum datang ke Kinabalu Park berserta resit pembayaran sebagai bukti. Berikut adalah proses yang perlu dilakukan ketika berada di kinabalu park;

1. Membayar yuran masuk
2. Mengisi borang pendakian/climbers form jika belum

7. Jangan mendaki jika mengalami masalah ini;
1. Penyakit jantung
2. Hipertensi
3. Asma kronik
4. Ulser peptik
5. Anemia yang teruk
6. Diabetes
7. Epileptic fits
8. Arthritis
9. Palpitations
10. Hepatitis (jaundice)
11. Kejang otot
12. Obesiti dll.
1. Dinner (4:30pm - 7:00pm)
2. Supper (2:00am - 3:30am)
3. Breakfast (7:30am - 10.30am)
4. Check in (1:00pm)
5. Check out (10:30am) - bagi penginap LR, cas akan dikenakan jika lewat (RM100/jam).
6. Sunset (6:30pm)
7. Sunrise (6:00am)
8. Cutoff time Sayat-Sayat check point (5:00am).

Tinggi-tiang Gunung Kinabalu,
Sudah daki terasa rindu,
Sayup-sayup angin Kundasang,
Belum daki marilah datang
